Happy Halloween!

Friday, October 29, 2010

It's raining in Buenos Aires... Why??!! It's supposed to be sunny and bright and close to 80!! Ok ok.. perhaps I'm exaggerating but this weather has made me wonder what I'm going to wear when I head back to NY in December. Transitioning from summer to winter WON'T be easy. Going back to work even less... But I am not complaining because I still have quite a few weeks to go and I know I'll have a blast when I head back to the city of lights and see my lovely friends again. Many adventures await!! And with these knits, furs, and what nots, I'll be more than ready to be a part of all of them!

Beauty and Desire Found

Although we work together, it was only during our July trip to Montauk that I got to know Melissa better. She is one of those people you rarely encounter in life, highly talented and also extremely humble. One wouldn't guess that she worked so many years in advertising... I had only seen M's drawings on her business card and I must admit that I've never seen a business card fly so quickly before! We were at a polo match and everyone was begging for the horses! A few weeks later, I politely (and forcefully...) invited myself to her studio. There, as I stood in awe, I discovered all about her painting process and her wildest dreams...

You see, Melissa's watercolors are large scale renditions of her dreams, revealing her deepest emotions and uncovering the most profound layers of the unconscious. Melissa's sensitivity and compassion are unparalleled. The result, a mix of mythology, marvel, and delight. Beauty and desired are truly found.

Nowadays, Melissa and I take trips to Italy almost every day. Our cappuccino fix is one of those moments that help us gather the inspiration we need to make it through the day and allow us to dream freely at night...

Inspiration à la Pipí Cucú

The setting is an old house with checkered floors and large windows that open to a patio.
The chairs and place settings are all different, adding a unique aspect to Pipí Cucú.
I love the art on the walls and the chandelier with colored ribbons.
The presentation is very special. The detail on the plates will make you feel like you are at grandma's house. I missed the glasses but you can see them in the background. They're beautiful, made of crystal and of different colors and sizes. So gorgeous!
Pipí Cucú is colorful, festive, and original.
Hanging over the bar is an upholstered canopy!
A big thank you to Madeleine who always has great recommendations in Bs. As.!

My Panache

Today I feel inspired. And I think it's time to switch up fragrances. I always travel with two or three options in case I get bored. I want to have an option for the day, evening, and any special occasion that might spontaneously arise. I like Panache because it's rich, powerful, and surprisingly sexy but not in a feminine girly way. That wouldn't be me anyway. Panache is crafted around Haitian vetyver and it has an addictive enveloping heart of jasmine sambac and ylang ylang that blend beautifully with white honey, golden amber, and musks. It also contains some divine ingredients that will leave you wondering what you're smelling, such as rum extract, oakwood, and ambrette seeds. It's not a perfume for everyone, but if you're looking for something special and unlike anything else out there, you may have found your panache in a 50ml bottle...

DelRae Roth, creator of Parfums DelRae, is based in San Francisco but travelled often to New York to meet with perfumer Yann Vasnier. He helped carry out her vision of Panache, which was inspired by Cyrano de Bergerac's love for Roxanne. I couldn't resist... had to add a picture of Yann...

Discovering Belinda!

                                  Belinda Café & Deli
I try to keep an adventurous spirit when traveling. I like going back to my favorite places, but I also make it a point to discover new ones. So when my friend Lorena proposed lunch at Belinda, I was thrilled to embark on a new culinary journey! Belinda is a young concept that was started a few years ago by Roberto and Francisco García Moritán. The entrepreneurial duo has opened three Belindas so far and is planning to open two more. The location that we went to is in Palermo, not far from the Museum of Latin American Art in Buenos Aires (MALBA). A hidden gem... Shhhh...
Belinda is all about enjoying the simple things in life.
Think: delicious, fresh, gourmet meals
in a relaxed yet chic environment.
Healthy homemade dishes with clever ingredient combinations
Sandwiches, tarts, and salads are the specialty but...
I hear that a New York style brunch menu is coming!

Manager Franciso García Moritán and Executive Chef
Diego Del Prado hosted a perfect Friday lunch.

With the chef!
Lorena and Jimena from Naiades Consulting
organized a 4 day event for Belinda. It was inspired by
Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"
Oleo en El País de las Delicias
The gourmet fantasy land displayed several
restaurants and highlighted their specialties...
I definitely want to check out the Tigre location before I head back to NY
Really like the feel of the communal table, large overhead lamps, and chalkboard drawings.    I want to be part of the drawing process when the next Belinda opens!
