Things I want...

I admitedly have a shopping problem. However I cannot always afford to buy the things I really spend time drooling about. My new favorite obsession is necklaces. They are a more affordable way of creating a new look. The two below are from Jcrew and Jacqueline Aiche

Colorful makeup can be hard to pull off. Red and Purple Eyeshadow is a good way to start experimenting with color if you aren't used to wearing it. I love the way it makes the wearer seem etherial and otherwordly.

Dolce and Gabbana
Guerlain

I also obviously like Jessica Stam. She always looks flawless even without make-up

Make Up Forever Aqua Cream can be used as eyeliner or eyeshadow and stays put even in this hot sweaty weather. I am buying it today.
Khloe jacquard cami
Natural makeup is my favorite for weekends and work. Everyone can pull it off. The best way to look like you arent wearing any makeup when you really are is dewy skin.

Rodarte for MAC

I was very excited when I saw in Vogue that Rodarte was doing a collaboration with MAC. The line isn't out until September, but I can still dream about the lipgloss (above) until Fall.

American Woman: Featuring a National Identity

On a recent visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I decided to stop by the American Woman exhibit. A magnificent treat was awaiting...

The Gibson Girl caught my attention first with pleat cotton shirts, plain weaves, and bifurcated skirts. Browns, creams, and blues dominated the palette. The voluptuous wigs, which resembled bird nests, imposed themselves in the room demanding their fair amount of attention.

The following room, the 1900 Bohemian, quickly drew me in with odalisque-like ensembles in warm tones. Peach and gold silk, ecru needle lace, chiffon, and an incredible collection of shoes. Things were getting better...

I have to admit that I practically skipped the patriot and suffragist room. The only thing that caught my attention there was a tourist couple kissing. Very sweet, but the Flappers were waiting! This was by far my favorite part of the exhibit. I was flabbergasted by the amount of sparkle around me. Metallic thread, bugle beads, sequins, paillettes, rhinestones… Now, I don’t consider myself to be a bling kind of person, but the designs were extremely delicate and executed with taste.

The security guard kept a close eye on me as I examined the feathers, pearls, charmeuse, and silk brocade…

I caught a glimpse of a peacock pattern as I walked towards the most glamourous part of the exhibit, which featured designs by Lanvin, Molyneux, and Goupt. The walls were covered by screens projecting beautiful old movies with gorgeous American actresses.

There is still another month to see American Woman. This is a show not be missed.

New Burberry and Topshop makeup lines are out.

Burberry and Topshop have launched their new cosmetics lines just a few days ago. This appears to be part of a trend as fashion houses seek to leverage their brand names to go into beauty. Two very different strategies and looks. Take your pick...

Burberry's Christopher Bailey, who was inspired by the Burberry trench coat, sought to create makeup that doesn't cake. The line is built on classic tones. Think neutrals: beige, taupe, grays, and just a tiny touch of red. Burberry's iconic packaging is very much in line with the image of the brand. It's meant to be kept around and even flaunted.

Topshop, on the other hand, opted for simple, almost drugstore-like packaging.
Simple lines, black and white polka dots, and quirky names that seem to be borrowed from Essie.
Their color palette is a touch more daring with shades such as Oopsy Daisy, Sea, and Sorbet

Turning 103!

Today we would celebrate Frida Kahlo’s 103rd birthday...

Frida's paintings continue to inspire us several decades after her death. Her oils revealed the naive, raw beauty of women. Her folk-like flat shapes, transmitted some of her most personal feelings. Although they were often disturbing, she was never hesitant to express them. She had a tragic, yet culturally rich life along the likes of Riviera, Breton, Picasso, and Duchamp among others. Her bright-colored self-portraits and still lives remind us that going back to our roots and embracing them can be a wonderful thing...

Happy Fourth of July!

Summer Colors Continued...

Lately I have been obsessing over anything hot pink. Anyone who knows me knows that if it's pink, I want it. It doesnt matter if its a cake or a pair of socks, the more pink the better. Luckily, hot pink and neon seem to be all over the place and I want in. Yesterday I bought M.A.C. lipglass in pink poodle and Tarte's lipstain with lipsurgence in Amused. Both last a long time in the hot weather and are more moisturizing than regular lip stains. Surprisingly the bright color actually looks better as it rubs off later in the day. If you are a little less daring, Chanel's lip gloss in Laser (pictured here below) is a more sheer hot pink. I look more awake and don't have to wear as much eye makeup with these lip glosses on. Its the perfect for looking pretty while sweating in the sun. Now if I can just figure out how to make orange lipstick look good on me, I am all set!
